Junk Vans

Marcus,

Sorry I couldn’t be at the meeting. I did look over what the consultants presented, and feel they have put together a conclusive case.

Before making my decision, I analyzed all 5 options for our organization to look into. Since our IT system within the organization can’t support our current business needs we will have to be willing to spend money, and make cuts as well. Looking through our previous sales, I have noticed we had a decrease in calls due to our unsatisfied customers we received online. We will have to make a decision soon this way we don’t lose any customers and gain more for the future.

I would suggest going forward with the Platform service. Although this may be costlier compared to the others, it has all the features we will and could use for the future. We don’t have much time to choose one and waste time deciding if it will be compatible with our system, rather we should get a service system that we already know will be compatible with our system.

Another positive thing would be getting rid of the centralized office. Due to the new system there, we would be able to access the database remotely. We will no longer have to email back and forth between the data clerk and operator. Maybe even other solution would be to get rid of the data clerk, since he will serve no purpose. We would be able to reduce the amount of emails but limiting our emails with this new service.

By implementing Platforms as a service we would be able to reduce human error, be able to get support when needed right away, be able to customize this service for future growth. Most importantly satisfy our customers but not having to delay in emails so we can have our repeat customers.

Thank you for your time.

Zara Recommendation

Sorry I couldn’t be there I heard about the meeting. I am aware of the suggestion you are deciding whether or not to update our systems. After seeing the consultant’s presentation, I think it would be in best interest for the company to upgrade to windows as they suggested.

Being able to have our employees trained in Windows would give them an advantage needed for the new retail systems. By having Windows, we will be able to do business online which is where most of our customer’s seem to want to do business. We need to be able to adapt and satisfy the needs of our customer’s satisfaction. Almost every company that has a retail store, has an online ordering system. With that being said switching from DOS to Windows would cost us approximately 3,064,600 euros that would be a 5 year. We would be able to benefit by the new system which will be an advantage to our company.

As of now our employees have to manually count the inventory to decide if new shipment needs to be ordered. Having this new system, we would be able to do this automatically, so that will reduce the time wasted and maybe even human error.

This would be a great suggestion to change. I really think our customer’s would continue to shop at Zara’s and we would have repeat customers. We must make these changes soon, since we are at loss of customers and of sales.

iPad Upgrade

Richard, I carefully analyzed the idea of upgrading our organization by replacing a 1,000 Microsoft Surface Pro laptops with Apple iPads. We need to take into consideration that as an organization we a budget. Financial and timing are 2 main things we will have to take into perspective.

As of right now our organization is using Windows based software. The problem is our software is not compatible with the Apple iOS software. Our contract with the software will end by September so we need to make a decision soon. If we decide to switch to the iOS systems, we will have transition to train our employees into the new software. With that being said, we will loose a lot of time.

Coming from a financial point of view it will not be worth it. Every 5 years we are budgeted new equipment, and our organizations computers are only 3 years old. We have about 1,000 Surface Pros, and each one is about $900/per unit as oppose to the iPads which will be $1,100 with the attachable keyboard employees will need. We spent over $900,000 on these Microsoft laptops. If we decide to train our employees, it will cost us over $1 million dollars not including buying the new software’s for the computers. Also, keep in mind we have a budget and already went over when we bought the original computers.

Surface Pros w/ keyboard- 1,000 x 900 = 900,000
IPads w/ keyboards – 1,000 x 1,100 = 1,100,000
Training employees – $50,000

Organization budget = $1,000,000

As you can see we have already exceeded our budget, and if we transition and spend all this money it will be difficult to deal with the consequences. Since this will cost us a lot of money, and timing will be something we won’t be able to get back, I feel this will not be a good decision to make with the short time given. Our organization is working well with our softwares now and don’t feel the need to rush anything. We will renew our contract come September and will have plenty of time to think about it for this time next year.
